Cotton is without
a doubt the most popular natural fabric of all times. No fibre is as
familiar as this fluffy white product of the cotton plant. Soft,
cool and comfortable - and it all begins in the lush green fields
like it has done for centuries. The story of cotton goes back at
least 7000 years. The oldest discoveries were made in South America,
The Middle East and Egypt. Cotton is a vegetable seed grown in warm humid regions, and cotton fibre is indeed the single most important fibre because of it's versatility and durability. It is easy to dye and clean, but most importantly extremely gentle and breathable on the skin due to the fibres capability to absorb perspiration quickly. Cotton plays a big role of The Earth Collection's creations, and we are steadily supplying our markets with our most successful items, the cotton herringbone, being a very important part of every season's collection.

Silk noil (raw
silk) has a natural appearance and is created by short fibres, often
from the innermost part of the cocoon. Our silk noil/ cotton fabric
is characterized by uneven yarns, nubs and colour variations which
give each garment its individual personality and enhance the beauty
of the garment. Beside being a beautiful fabric, our main reason for choosing to work with silk, is the fact that the production process has close to no negative impact on the environment, as no harsh chemicals can be used. The garments are temperature regulating, making it warm in winter and cool in summer by transporting moisture away from the body. It retains its shape, drapes well, caresses the figure, and shimmers with a lustre of its own. Because of the silk's
many excellent characteristics, silk garments can be worn for all
seasons, and it is continually

Ramie, also known
as China grass, and often mistaken for linen as they are close
related, is a bast of plant fibre used since ancient times. The
first clothes produced of ramie dates back to 5000 - 3300 BC in
Egypt. The long, fine ramie fibres are one of the strongest natural
fibres, up to three to five times stronger than cotton, and it
exhibits even greater strength when wet. The fibres are naturally
white and lustrous with an almost silky appearance and has an
unusual resistance to bacteria and moulds. This elegant, beautiful, smooth, durable and refined natural fabric is extremely absorbent, which makes it very comfortable to wear, especially during warm weather. It has an excellent abrasion resistance and dries quickly. Ramie is often mistaken for linen, ramie is however more shiny and lustrous, and wrinkles less than linen. We have deliberately chosen ramie based on the facts above. Blending ramie with cotton reduces the wrinkling and offers increased lustre, strength and colour. The Earth Collection blends ramie with cotton, and introduce a new line of ramie/ cotton items as part of our collection for every season.

Hemp is the plant
of the past and will be the plant of the future. More and more
people discover the countless ways of using hemp, and it will
undoubtedly become a bigger part of our daily life. Hemp is made from the stems of the Cannabis Sativa plant and is among world's most durable and eco-friendly natural fibres. Hemp farming requires very little water and can be grown without the use of toxic herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers. Furthermore It renews the soil with each growth cycle because it is a nitrogen-fixing plant. It's long roots also prevent erosion and produce more fibre per acre than trees, and can be harvested two to three times a year. Another important factor is that nothing is wasted in the production process: Seeds are used to make oil and food supplements, while the stalks are used for fibre. The production of hemp is cost effective and easy on the environment and you may say that purchasing clothes in hemp supports the transition to a healthier planet. When thinking of hemp, the illegal plant marijuana still often comes to mind, in spite of the fact that the industrial hemp fibre does not contain any narcotic chemicals. Clothes in hemp is lightweight, breathable, absorbent, long lasting, comfortable and 4 times stronger than cotton. It's furthermore UV resistant and help block out the sun's harmful rays, as well as wicks sweat away from the body. The Earth Collection blends hemp with cotton which creates a soft product. Furthermore we peach all our hemp/ cotton garments for an optimal hand feel and softness. The Earth Collection introduce a line of hemp/ cotton as part of our collection for every season. |
